Anthracite Region

Coal was one of the essential components of Pennsylvania's industrial strength. Anthracite coal was pulled from the earth throughout Central Pennsylvania and up into the Northeast. Today we can still see the remnants of those times and we can learn about the hardships immigrants went through by moving to the United States.
